Important Things To Keep In Mind When Choosing A Dog Toy
There are several factors to keep in mind when buying any dog toy.
1. Proper Toy Sizing - It's important to ensure your dog's safety and
minimize damage to the toy. Typically, toys should always be larger
than the size of your dog's mouth. For any of the breeds with powerful jaws it is
recommend going up to a bigger size, if not the biggest possible.
2. The Breed - Terrier breeds tend to make short work of their
toys due to their natural instinct to destroy. Squeaker dog toys will lose
their squeak in a short space of time, as this represents an animal in
distress, again, that is the nature of the breed.
3. Chewing Temperament - Know your dog's chewing temperament and if
they are tenacious chewers do not leave them with any toy that they
could cause damage to and swallow.
Top 10 Dog Toys
Many owners will go through a fair few dog toys in their pets lifetime, and during that time, there will be a small number which emerge as the favourites. Here at Net Pet Shop, we've put together a list of our top selling dog toys, giving a fair picture of the types of dog toys that your pooches find the most interesting and entertaining. |
Indestructible Boomer Ball:The first dog toy on our list is a relatively new toy to hit the market. Many owners with extreme chewers tend to be rather cynical about any dog toy that claims to be "indestructible". That is, until they come across the Boomer Ball. This simple ball toy, is a solid plastic ball available in a variety of sizes to suit all breeds. It comes in bright colours, and is puncture proof, meaning that even the most determined dogs are able to chew and chase to their hearts content. Testament to the creators belief in the durability of the Boomer Ball, this toy comes complete with a 1 year guarantee, making it a very worthwhile investment for any owner with a dog who destroys the majority of plush and rubber toys it can get its teeth into. |

Kong Wobbler:The Kong Wobbler is the newest innovation from the genius's over at Kong in the States. Based around the very popular Classic Kong shape, the Wobbler is a larger, solid plastic version of this toy. Weighted at the bottom, when the Wobbler is thrown, rolled or pushed, it will automatically right itself, wobbling as it does, and releasing treats. The unique movement of the toy excites dogs, bringing out natural hunting behaviours, and as they pounce and paw the Wobbler, it spins and rolls, dispensing your pets tastiest treats from a Kong shaped hole in the side. The practical, wipe clean interior of the Kong Wobbler makes it a fantastic alternative to the boring dog bowl, and can be used to provide meals, extending feeding time, providing exercise and stimulation, and preventing hasty dogs from scoffing their food. |

Bento Ball:The Bento Ball is the newest addition to our website, and have since been selling like hot cakes. This unique treat ball adds an extra dimension to the traditional, boring plastic balls. Made from a solid, but soft rubber, the Bento Ball is a half ball, which has a small opening at the bottom for treats or kibble to be added. The top of the Bento Ball is capped with an everlasting solid chicken flavoured treat, allowing your dog to chew and lick the toy for a tasty surprise, and for them to nudge and roll the ball for additional treats. The design of the Bento Ball also features gentle rubber dimples along the rubber, providing the added bonus of promoting dental and oral hygiene during play. |

Air Kong Squeaker Tennis Balls:One of the most popular dog toys throughout the world, and probably throughout history, is the tennis ball. Plain and simple, no dog can resist the thrill of chasing a tennis ball across fields in all weathers. So when Kong redesigned the basic tennis ball to include a squeaker, it was a revelation for owners everywhere. Coupled with the high pitched squeak, dogs went wild, heightening the excitement of a simple game of fetch to a whole new level. Available in all sizes, from extra small for the Toy breeds, up to large for all the hounds, the Air Kong Tennis Balls are a top seller, and no owner should be without a set of these. |

Busy Buddy Tug A Jug:We've recently launched a new range of dog toys from a Company called Busy Buddy, and by far, our favourite is the Tug A Joy, as there's simply nothing like it currently available. Based around the popular treat toy, Busy Buddy have introduced an extra sense to the mix - sight! Not only is your dog able to smell the irresistible treats inside the toy, they can see them as they roll and tumble around inside the transparent jug shaped toy, keeping your pet interested and engaged. Complete with a rubber stopper and tug rope, the Tug A Jug is perfect as a throw and fetch toy, releasing treats as it goes, providing your dog with a fun and rewarding play experience. As with the Wobbler, the Tug A Jug is a fantastic alternative to the regular feeding routine, and can be used to dispense a full meal slowly, preventing dogs from gulping their food. |

Nina Ottosson Dog Toy:Nina Ottosson has fast become one of the most well-known names in the interactive dog toy industry, and her entire range has flown off the shelves since they came to market. However, our most popular amongst all the fancy designs and challenges is the simple "Smart" toy. This wooden toy consists of a circular board with small holes in which treats can be hidden, and a number of caps to place over the treats. Your dog must watch which cap the treat is placed under, remember the position, and then find the reward when prompted. Each of the Nina Ottosons designs has a unique aspect, providing a different kind of mental and physical stimulation for your dog. Extreme Aqua Ring Dog Toy:75% of dogs adore water, and it's always a depressing sight to watch your four legged friend grab an expensive toy, spot water, jump in and let go of the toy, oblivious to the fact that it's sinking to the bottom of the pond, never to be seen again. So it's no surprise that some of the post popular toys are water resistant, floating toys. Our top seller from this category is the Extreme Aqua Ring. This rugged, durable Frisbee is made from a tough fabric, allowing it to withstand play from even the most exuberant dogs. The shape of the Extreme Aqua Ring makes it an ideal throw and fetch toy, and available in a bright yellow, making it easily spotted from a distance. There's also no worry of loosing the toy in water, as it floats, for added swimming fun for dogs who just can't resist the allure of a still pond. |
