Attracting Wildlife To Your Garden

Most gardens can get some kind of wildlife, at least a few birds, who will become regular visitors if you remember to keep your bird feeders topped up. The more common British birds found in gardens, such as robins, blackbirds, sparrows will be happy with a bit of bird seed in a seed feeder. The bigger the variety of bird foods and bird seeds you put out, the more types of bird you will attract. Adding a bird nest box can also be a good idea, and will allow you to do bird watching from the comfort of your own home.

Tips For Feeding Wild Birds

  • Get a range of bird feeders and bird food, especially mixed bird seed, peanuts and fat balls
  • Remember to Keep your feeders topped up so the birds don't make the journey to your garden for nothing
  • Clean out your feeders regularly to prevent mould and help stop disease such as bird flu
  • Don't feed dry bread to garden birds, it swells up in their stomach and prevents them from eating good nutritious food
  • Provide water for your garden birds, a bird bath is the best way
  • If you have a cat put a bell on his collar so the birds know he's coming!
