No More unwanted visitors - No more lost cat collar keys!
Overview SureFlap cat flaps recognise the ID chip already implanted in your cat, allowing access to your pet and making unwanted visitors a thing of the past. Your home becomes a secure environment for your pet, leading to a happier, more relaxed animal. No need for a collar or tag which can get lost or even worse caught on branches, etc.
Operation Operation of SureFlap couldn't be simpler. Once the unit is installed and the batteries put in place, the flap can be put into learn mode. The next time your cat passes through the flap, the unique ID code of its chip is put into memory. Now SureFlap unlocks whenever your cat wants to come into the house. Multiple cats are no problem. Up to 32 cats can be programmed into the flap at the same time.
Battery life Typical battery life is greater than 6-months. A low battery indicator is provided to tell you when replacement batteries are needed.
Manual lock The 4-way manual lock allows you to lock the door in any combination of in/out. For example vet mode allows your cat to enter the house but keeps him inside for the next trip to the vet.
Mounting Instructions are provided for mounting in all door types. A template that shows the hole size required for SureFlap together with the outer dimensions may be downloaded here
Manual For further information the SureFlap manual is available for downloadhere
What is a microchip? A microchip is a tiny implant about the size of a grain of rice. In a painless procedure, your vet injects this under the skin of your cat, between the shoulder blades. Your cat now has a permanent ID without the worry of a collar or tag becoming detached.
The microchip is computer readable and lasts indefinitely as it doesn't need a battery to operate. Each microchip has a unique ID number that is put onto a central database together with your address details.
If your cat becomes lost then all vets and re-homing centres are equipped with a special scanner to read the microchip. They can simply look up the ID number on the database and give you a call to return your cat.
Can a microchip wear out? Microchips don't contain any battery and therefore have an indefinite lifetime. The special scanner required to read the microchip supplies the tiny amount of power it needs each time it is read.
Also, there is no limit to the number of times that the microchip can be read. It should continue running at least as long as your cat!
Does SureFlap work with my cat's existing microchip? Yes. SureFlap has been designed to work with all microchips that are used throughout the UK and the rest of Europe. In order to ensure operation with your cat we do advise testing BEFORE installation. See the notice included with the product byclicking here.
How does SureFlap know my cat's microchip number? When SureFlap is put in learn mode then the door is unlocked. The next cat to go through the flap has its microchip read and the code put in memory, permanently. Your cat will now be recognised by SureFlap.
Using this learn mode you don't have to force an uncooperative cat through the flap. Just leave SureFlap in learn mode and let him go through in his own good time... Simply repeat this process with multiple cats.
How quickly does SureFlap open and close for my cat? When your cat comes to enter the house then SureFlap detects their head is in the tunnel and then reads their ID chip. This typically takes a fraction of a second and the door opens without noticeable delay.
SureFlap closes a few seconds after they have passed through the tunnel.
Can another cat have the same microchip number and get in? No. Each microchip has a unique ID number, so next door's cat has no chance of making it through the flap.
My cat isn't microchipped. How do I change this? Your vet will be able to do this for you. The procedure is a quick, painless injection of the microchip between the shoulder blades of your cat. The links section provides some further information on microchipping.
Included in the price (around £20) your details will automatically be put on the re-homing database so that your cat can be re-united with you if they become lost.
I have more than one cat. Can SureFlap learn all of them? Yes. SureFlap can remember up to 32 different cats at the same time - more than enough for most people's lifetime!
Even if you exceed the limit of 32 cats, then the oldest codes are replaced first. There is also the option to wipe the memory if you mistakenly program the wrong cat in...
What happens when I change batteries - is the memory kept? Yes. Once a cat is learnt then it stays in memory whether the batteries are in place or not.
What size hole do I need to mount SureFlap? Full mounting instructions are provided in the user manual. The user manual and template for the hole required/outer dimensions may be accessed below: Manual Template
What type of doors can SureFlap go in? Full fitting instructions for all door types are given in the user manual. Manual Fitting in most door types is straightforward. If installing SureFlap in a metal door then an oversize hole is required in order to operate (full details in the manual). An easy check for a steel plate in your door is with a magnet, although this will not pick up aluminium. If there is already a hole for a cat flap then it should be easy to see whether a metal plate is incorporated into the construction.
Can SureFlap be mounted in a wall? SureFlap is supplied with fixings for a range of different thickness doors up to ~5cm. It can also be fixed into thicker doors and walls but should still be screwed into place from the outside face of the door/wall. Mounting holes should be drilled according to the instructions shown here: Wall mount instructions
Can I use SureFlap to stop some of my cats leaving the house? SureFlap stops unwanted visitors coming into your house. In normal mode, any animal inside is able to leave the house.
You can use the 4-way manual lock to stop any animal entering and/or leaving the house, but you cannot do this selectively for different cats.
Can you supply SureFlap in different sizes or colours? SureFlap is currently available in white and in one size. If we add new models we will show the range on this website.
